The Rollicking Boys of Tandregee Set

The Rollicking Boys of Tandregee Set

I trudged through loose sand that gave way under my boots and counteracted much of my effort to move forward. It was easier going once I was able to walk closer to the water, where the sand was wet, smooth, and more compact.

The beach comprised the northern boundary of Sunken Meadow State Park, on New York’s Long Island. I could see Connecticut farther north across the blue-green water of Long Island Sound.

Logs standing upright in rows and concrete blocks with the remnants of rusty pipes embedded within seemed the last evidence of former structures, but not much description of their natures. Some sort of industry or business, or maybe the places people lived at the water’s edge had been abandoned. The beach was otherwise empty. I spent three hours out there and passed only three people walking quietly in the breeze.

I played the jigs The Rollicking Boys of Tandregee and Jimmy Ward’s for the soundtrack. I tried to keep the tempo down and draw out the notes.
